"A Visit To A Hill Station
Excursion or pleasure trips, enjoyed in the company of
friends, find a permanent find a permanent place in the memory of human beings.
These sweet memories always, even after several years, remain fresh in the man’s
mind. Such are the joys and memories which I gathered during the trip to Murree
that was arranged by our college last year on the eve of our farewell party
which the juniors arranged in our honour, according to the prestigious traditions of our college. Like
all the good institutions, there is a tradition in our college that the
seniors, instead of making a fool, give a
welcome party to the newcomers and at the end of the session, the juniors give
a farewell party to their seniors. Last year, when it was our turn to receive a
farewell, our charge, Prof. Ali floated a unique and wonderful idea that the
party should be arranged somewhere outside the college. Fortunately, Murree is
at a distance of only 50 kilometers from our college, so it was unanimously decided
to go there.
On that Sunday,
I was very excited as I had never found a chance to travel to a hill station
before. I had heard about the beautiful scenes, healthy climate, cold weather
and zigzag roads of Murree. Our juniors, under the supervision of Prof. Ali, had made good arrangements. They had
arranged a luxury coach. We gathered in the college and left for Murree at
8:00.
It took two
hours to reach Murree. The journey was passed very happily. All the students
were very happy and excited. They told jokes, sang songs, and threw husk of
oranges on each other. Our in charge, Prof. Ali was a very nice man. Although he
was very strict in the matters of discipline in the class, but today he gave us
a free hand to carry on all the
activities except the immoral ones. He advised us to do what we wanted but not
to tease others.
After two
hours, when we reached Murree, I was astonished to observe that though the
weather was quite hot in Rawalpindi, but we were feeling there in Murree. A cool breeze was blowing and there were clouds
in the sky. " Thus a thing of beauty is a joy forever." We went straight to the Kashmir
point. There we sat in a grassy plot and the speech session of the farewell
party held. Umar, as the representative
of juniors, wished us good luck and I
represented the seniors to pay thanks to juniors. Some boys sang songs and Mr.
Baber read a humorous article. Our teacher, Prof. Ali delivered a very good
speech. He advised us regarding our future lives.
After this, we took our lunch. There were very tasty
dishes of mutton and fish and we ate up to our fill.
Chickens were not included as they were rumors of bird flu. Then we played a ‘handkerchief’
though there was a bit cold, yet we enjoyed it. We remained there for four
hours but the four hours were spent in no time. Then we went to Mall Road. We were
free to roam about on the Mall Road and we started wandering here and there in
a group of four to five students. There was
a great rush on the mall. People from all corners of the country had come
there. We saw there same foreigners too. We
were near the Pindi Point that it started raining suddenly. We took shelter in a
nearby hotel and enjoyed coffee. The weather was so cold that my teeth began to
chatter.
After an hour,
we gathered at the fixed point i.e. GPO. It was time to return home. We went
down where the driver was waiting for us. We reached home at about 8.00 PM. We were
so exhausted that I took the meal and went to sleep. It was indeed a well spent
day and I remember it still.
