Can a transformer operate on direct current?

Q:Can a transformer operate on direct current?

Ans: The transformers work according to the Faraday's Law of electromagnetic induction.
The Direct Current does not produce variable magnetic field and when primary coil of transformer is connected to DC then constant magnetic field lines pass through secondary coil and will not induce any voltage in the secondary coil.
Therefore, transformer cannot be operated on the direct Current.
